plain white paper/paul revere's ride 2025, stoneware, glaze, pine. 48 x 26”

i found a tile sample in this weird trapezoid shape, on the back it said "alex's bathroom". i was endeared by it, so i started making a bunch of them. at the time, i was reading a lot about the american revolution. something i had actually read for the very first time was the poem, "paul revere's ride".

what ended up happening was a bleeding together of a modern boy's bathroom and this weird, false, historic american artifact. i imagine the poem projected on bathroom walls in some house somewhere. i imagine all the ways the myths we tell ourselves effect the way we live our lives.

i also want to note that the "Y" shape in the center of the tiles is a slipcast slingshot. i made the mold from a toy i found in the thrift store. if you look up close, you can see the faux wood grain.
